GDOT-Plans for Interchange Ramps at SR400 & I-85

Public invited to review plans for interchange ramps at SR 400 and I-85

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting to discuss a proposed interchange reconstruction at SR 400 and I-85 in metro Atlanta. The open house is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 26, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Phillips Cathedral, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta.

Georgia DOT engineers will be available to discuss the concept plan and answer questions from the public.
The proposed project would improve interchange capacity by constructing two separate ramps:
· The first ramp would exit I-85 southbound providing direct access to SR 400 northbound;
· The second ramp would exit SR 400 southbound, cross over the mainline of I-85, then directly merge onto I-85 northbound.

The proposed ramps are expected to reduce traffic on the heavily congested surface streets of Sidney Marcus Boulevard, Buford Highway and Lenox Road, resulting in fewer accidents and an overall safer driving environment for commuters. The current proposed plan utilizes existing Right of Way and should not adversely impact adjacent homeowners. The plan does not include any changes to the ramps connecting I-85 northbound to SR 400 northbound and SR 400 southbound to I-85 southbound.

Anyone unable to attend the meeting may send comments on the project to:
Glenn Bowman, Georgia DOT, 3993 Aviation Circle, Atlanta, Georgia 30336.

Comments may also be made via the web at
www.dot.ga.gov. All comments will be considered in the development of the final project design and must be received by March 12.
